HRE13 | Grade 8 | Let’s Begin!

Tuesdays 6:00PM

Let’s start with a flashback to Passover, you know—that time of year when you might have joined a family Seder, munched on some matzoh and heard the ancient story of Moses and the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt. Ever wonder if it actually happened? Curious to know the actual details? What was it really like for the Jews in Egypt, and do miracles actually happen? The Ten Commandments—what exactly are those; is that all we have to do? And what makes us Jewish, anyway? Yes, so many questions, but we have all the answers to those and more…

And finally, what does all this have to do with facebook and twitter? Join us as we go through the history of Israel, step by step, and gain an understanding of how we developed as a nation in ancient times as well as in modern day.

HRE33 | Grade 10 | What’s the point of all this stuff?

Date / Time TBA

“They tried to kill us, we won, let’s eat!” That’s the motto of many Jewish holidays. Or is it? Ever wonder why we sit in it a hut for a week and hold a lemon? Or whether sushi is kosher? Or the difference between a Jew in the desert, a Jew in the ghetto and a Jew in the new millennium. Or even the difference between falafel and shwarma—yes, in true Jewish style, we are real foodies, and food is a hot topic in class!
